The only thing that you’ll absolutely have to buy are the cheesemaking cultures. The rest is optional as I’ll show you how to work with what you already have. If you do want to buy extra equipment we’ll point you in the right direction and point out what you should take into consideration when making your selection.
The main ingredients are cashews and water, some coconut milk or coconut oil (optional), and salt. There are a few other things, but everything else is easy to get your hands on and we point you in the right direct so that you can get exactly what you need. If you are allergic to cashews unfortunately this course is not suitable for you. We are working on other recipes which use soy or other nuts and seeds but for the time being we are not able to offer these options.
YES! I know you're busy, but cheesemaking is much less time consuming than you might think. The time you’ll spend actively making the cheese will be a couple of hours at the beginning (if not less), and then a few minutes per day tending to them. Although a cheese takes 3-4 weeks before it's ready to eat there's actually a lot of waiting involved.
PLUS following this course is the most time efficient way to learn how to make cheese. It's a one-stop-shop for all you need to know, and you won't have to spend hours searching all over the place for what you need.
The main, and most expensive, ingredient are the cashews. You should count around 150g/1 cup cashews per cheese so it depends how much your cashews cost. You also need to factor in the price of your cultures, but you only use very small amounts each time. Also in the course you'll also learn how to make some of your own cultures, saving you money.
A lot of plant-based cheese currently available on the market is a combination of ingredients which looks and tastes like something not dissimilar to cheese, but strictly speaking isn’t cheese. At The V Cheese Academy we follow a procedure which is similar to traditional cheese making. That means that what you end up with is cheese, but without animal milk. Industrial plant-based cheese is also highly processed and tends to contain a lot of coconut oil as well as additives. Our cheeses are minimally processed, made with simple ingredients, and only some contain small amounts of coconut oil, which is optional.
The main thing you’ll need is somewhere cold for your cheeses for a couple of weeks as the mould grows. This can be your domestic fridge or a cold room in your home. Otherwise we give you advice on other options. It’s also good if you already have a decent blender. If you don’t I’ll tell you what to take into consideration when selecting one. The rest is readily available and we’ll point you in the right direction as to where to get hold of it.
